What are the Privacy Obligations of Approved Supports?

At Approved Supports, we are committed to upholding the privacy rights of all individuals associated with our organization, including participants, providers, employees, contractors, and community partners. Our Privacy Policy outlines the types of personal information we, and our authorized agents, collect and retain, as well as the methods and reasons behind this collection. It also elucidates how this information is utilized, how individuals can access and modify their personal data, and the procedures for filing a complaint in the event of perceived privacy breaches.

Personal information, as defined by us, encompasses data or opinions pertaining to an identifiable individual. Examples include a person's name, address, date of birth, and particulars regarding their health or disabilities.

While privacy laws do not extend to information concerning corporate entities such as providers or community partners, it's crucial to note that the personal information of individuals affiliated with these entities (e.g., employees) is safeguarded by privacy laws.

In our handling of personal information, we adhere to the obligations stipulated by federal law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The Privacy Act provides the legal basis for our collection of personal information, particularly when it is necessary to facilitate access to services like Approved Supports and fulfill our other organizational functions.

Additionally, we operate under the confidentiality and secrecy provisions delineated in the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (Cth) (NDIS Act). These provisions dictate the parameters within which we can collect and utilize personal information, as well as specify the circumstances under which information can be disclosed and to whom. Our commitment is not only to comply with these legal requirements but to go beyond, ensuring the highest standard of privacy protection for all individuals connected with Approved Supports.
